~*Chapter Eleven*~
Killian stood at the bedroom window. After the attack the day before, he wasnât going to let Stone dictate how he would be protecting him. All of the others were out. They decided that they would not go to the club, and Stone had opted to stay in â which meant Killian was opting to stay in.
Killian narrowed his gaze at the trees across the way. Once again, large ravens were on almost every branch. It seemed as if they were keeping an eye out as well.
Stone exited the bathroom and stopped.
âWhy are you in my room?â
âBecause, whether you like it or not, I am your bodyguard.â
Stone crossed the room to his desk and sat down, propping his feet on the bed. Killian stood at the bedroom window. Stone sighed in frustration and Killian raised an eyebrow at him.
âWhat?â Stone turned his attention to the paper in his hand.
âWhat is it that you are doing?â
âItâs called homework. I have to come up with the meanings behind names.â
âOh?â
âYes. Iâve already looked yours up for fun.â
Killian leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. âLet me guess. It means huge asshole?â
âClose,â Stone snorted.
Killian scowled and Stone sighed.
âFine. Iâve found a few meanings. âBright headedâ is one, and we know thatâs bullshit.â Stone smiled wide. âThen thereâsâ the small and fierce.ââ
Killian straightened. âI am not small.â
âNo â I am, remember? Youâve certainly pointed it out often enough.â Stone glared at Killian.
âWhat does your name mean?â
âSmall pebble.â Stone bit his bottom lip. Killianâs lips twitched and it almost looked as if a smile was forming. âYou should do that more often.â
âWhat?â Killian turned back to the window, lacing his fingers behind his back.
âTwitch,â Stone deadpanned. âSmile, idiot. Or attempt to. Okay, so youâre not small. But you were pretty fierce taking on Doberman Pinschers.â
Killian relaxed a little against the wall. âDoes that mean you will forgive me?â
Stone shut his book and regarded Killian. âI donât know.â
âI am sorry for deceiving you, Stone, but I knew if I tried to protect you as a man, I would fail. I would say something wrong. Or do something wrong. Then you would dislike me even more than you already did. I couldnât take a chance that you would get angry with me and put yourself in danger by avoiding or ignoring me.â
Killian took a deep breath and continued. âThese last weeks of being with you as a puppy Iâve seen how loving you are, how sweet you are â and it has awakened feelings in me I have never had. You cared for me, soothed me when I was scared. I have never had that. I care very much for you, Stone Marinos, more than I ever thought I was capable of.â
âI said things to you as a puppy, embarrassing things.â Stone grabbed his book and pretended to read it.
âI was raised in a lab, Stone. I have no idea how old I am, or how to have conversations. No one ever spoke to me, or held me, or cared about me.
